How to motivate your team through 2022

Motivating your team

According to Harvard Business Review’s article ‘How Company Culture Shapes Employee Motivation’, teams perform better when three key motivators are present: purpose, potential and play.

For now… how to set the right tone for the rest of 2022

Before you race into the summer, t’s important to take a moment to recognise that the last year or so has definitely not been easy. Goals are important but so is motivation to reachthose goals which is why we recommend reviewing the following questions with your team:

  • What achievements am I most proud of from 2021/the last quarter?

  • What did I find challenging?

  • What am I grateful for?

Some tips for running a great session:

  • Set up 30 minutes as a team to discuss the three questions above, taking one at a time. Try not to include any other agenda points.

  • Ask people to prepare their thoughts in advance.

  • Decide what you want to start, stop and continue going into the next quarter - ask someone to scribe so you can refer to this throughout the rest of the year.

  • Think about whether there’s a step up opportunity for someone to chair the meeting - it doesn’t always have to be the team leader.

  • Got some achievements to celebrate? Plan something with the team to do just that!
